There are camping facilities at Uwinka, if tourists choose to stay the night in the forest. There are also limited number of rooms in a small cabin at Uwinka that may be available to
rent. Tourists should plan to bring their own food with them for their stay at Uwinka in the forest.
Proceed to Gisakura and the PCFN office to check in and reserve a campsite or cabin space at Uwinka. Tourists may also stay at the guest house in Gisakura, and return each day to hike in
the forest, an easy 40 minute drive. Lastly, there are several hotels and restaurants in Cyangugu, a town about an hour drive from Gisakura along the border with DRC.
Gisakura Guest House is just outside the forest and offers basic but comfortable accommodation.

GISAKURA Eco lodge Site
Gisakura Eco lodge is located in the existing tea plantation adjacent to the park. It is one of the most beautiful sites in
NFNP with a magnificent view of the tea plantation and the forest. The meeting of two varied landscapes (tea
plantation and forest) creates a rich visual experience, and the unique
site elevation is a reason it offers magnificent views of Nyungwe Forest. One of the many advantages of this site is that it is located in the
western end of the park, which has a strong tourism potential because of its rich bio diversity. Because of the beauty of this site, a luxury eco
lodge was recommended in order to attract more of upscale international visitors. This site is accessed via an existing 3 kilometers murram road which
branches off the asphalted Cyangugu - Butare Road and runs through the tea plantation. It is found at an altitude of 1960 m above sea level and at 2 km away
from the neighboring village. The possible source of water is a bout 200m away from the site while the distance to hydra electricity is 1 km. Possible attractions at Gisakura
site: Currently, there are two attractions at this site including the nature walkway
(trail) and the waterfalls. Besides this, Gisakura site is closer (20 kilometers distance) to Uwinka where most of tourism activities/attractions are. |
