GETTING THERE:
Kigali is served by international flights from Brussels and London; Bujumbura, Burundi; Johannesburg, South Africa; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Kampala, Uganda and Nairobi, Kenya. It is best to travel from Kigali to the park in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Tours can be arranged starting in Kigali. Guides from the entrance gate or the Akagera Game Lodge will accompany you.
WHEN TO GO:
The best time to visit the park is during the dry period from November to January when most grass is short and hard, the way herbivores such as zebras and antelopes like it because it is tasty and they can see predators like lions from far. This also makes it easier for human visitors to see lions. And game drives in Akagera National Park are usually leisurely and fruitful, unlike the sometimes frenzied efforts to spot game in places like Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve.
AKAGERA GAME LODGE: Facilities include a restaurant, bar, a swimming pool, a tennis court, a conference room, and business facilities.
